At the end of summer 2015, we – a group of eight enthusiastic Lithuanian-American couples in Atlanta, GA – started something that had never been done in our community. We established a Lithuanian Folk Dance Group “Jievaras.”
We have a few goals in mind:
1) Celebrate and honor our heritage,
2) Add even more excitement to the events of the Lithuanian community in Atlanta, GA
3) Represent Atlanta’s Lithuanian community in the 15th North American Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival in Baltimore, MD next year.
One may ask: “What is a Lithuanian Dance Festival?” It is a spectacle of dancers from at least 6 different countries. The performance features national costumes and traditional Lithuanian folk dances with up to 1,600 performers dancing in unison in the historic Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore.
On Sunday evenings, we work on unique Lithuanian folk dances, planning to perform during the annual Lithuanian Christmas Dinner in Atlanta, GA this year and, ultimately, to participate in the 15th North American Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival next year. You can find more information about the festival at www.sokiusvente2016.org/en
To achieve our goals, we need to cover the costs of studio rentals, travel, hotels, traditional costumes, and registration fees. We aim to raise $12,000, which will be used to cover the expenses. Currently, the most immediate need is to cover studio rental fees.
Please help us to reach our goal! The amount does not matter – $5 or even $1 will help.
